Octopus Free Greggs Coffee 2026
Octopus Free Greggs Coffee 2026: How the Monday Scratchcard Works
Octopus Energy used to give Octoplus members a free Greggs hot drink every week. That stopped in July 2026. The free coffee now sits inside a Monday Scratchcard as one possible prize. This page covers who can play, how to claim and use a win, what the drink covers, and the weekly Greggs deals that still work if you don’t win.
Is the Octopus free Greggs coffee still running?
Not as a weekly code. Octopus stopped the daily coffee drops from 20 July 2026 and moved the free Greggs or Caffè Nero coffee into the Octoplus Monday Scratchcard. You scratch once each Monday in the Octopus app. A coffee is one prize among many, so a win isn’t guaranteed.
You need Octopus electricity, a smart meter sending half-hourly readings, and a Direct Debit. Not with Octopus? O2 Priority and Monzo Perks both give a weekly Greggs deal.
What changed: from weekly codes to the Monday Scratchcard
Octoplus is Octopus Energy’s free loyalty scheme. Since February 2024 it had offered a free weekly hot drink at Greggs, and later at Caffè Nero too. You picked one or the other each week. Codes dropped every morning, and members reported that they were gone by around 7am.
Octopus replaced that system in July 2026. It says the scratchcard spreads free coffee more fairly and ends the morning scramble.
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| February 2024 | Octoplus adds a free weekly hot drink at Greggs. |
| 13 July 2026 | The Monday Scratchcard launches in the Octopus app. |
| 20 July 2026 | The regular weekly coffee code drops stop. |
The coffee prize didn’t disappear. A free Greggs or Caffè Nero drink is still in the prize pool, alongside chocolate bars, ice pops, takeaway vouchers and cinema tickets. If your card doesn’t win an instant prize, it enters you into a monthly giveaway. Some cards also award Clams, which are collectible stamps. Collect eight to fill a Clam Card, then you have seven days to swap it for a prize of your choice.
Octopus doesn’t publish the odds of winning a coffee on its Octoplus page. Treat each Monday as a free bonus, not a weekly guarantee.
Who can play the Octoplus scratchcard
You need three things to join Octoplus: electricity supplied by Octopus Energy, an electricity smart meter sending half-hourly readings, and payment by Direct Debit. Any standard or smart Octopus tariff qualifies. Joining is free. The scratchcard terms also limit each Octoplus account to one prize a week, and the card is only playable in the Octopus app.
A few details trip people up:
- No smart meter yet? You can request one on the Octopus website. Octopus says it can usually install within a few weeks, though it can’t promise a date.
- Octoplus access can lapse. Removing your Direct Debit or switching off half-hourly readings takes you out automatically. You can rejoin once you reverse the change.
- Moving home? If the new place has no smart meter, you lose Octoplus access until it has one. Your Octopoints stay safe in the meantime.
- Someone else pays the power bill? Whoever holds the Octopus account plays in their own app. Ask them nicely, or take the drink as payment.
How to claim a free Greggs drink, step by step
Open the app on Monday
Go to the Octoplus tab in the Octopus app. Your card stays available all day Monday.
Scratch the card
You’ll get an instant prize, a Clam, or an entry into the monthly giveaway.
Claim a win that day
If you win a Greggs drink, accept it before the end of Monday. A rejected or unclaimed prize is lost.
Redeem in a Greggs shop
At the till, tap “Activate offer” and show staff the QR code.
Use it by Sunday midnight
The Greggs code works Monday to Sunday of the week you win. Check the expiry on the prize.
Don’t activate the code early. Once you tap “Activate offer” you only have a short time to redeem it. Wait until staff are ready to scan your phone at the till.
Claim first, redeem later. A claimed prize sits in your Reward History in the Octoplus tab, so you can win on a Monday morning and collect it on Saturday. Just make sure the expiry date gives you enough time.
What the free Greggs drink covers
The Greggs code is for a regular-size hot drink. Under the terms MoneySavingExpert listed for the Greggs code, that includes americano, white coffee, cappuccino, latte, vanilla latte, mocha, flat white, espresso, English breakfast tea, green or peppermint tea, hot chocolate, and speciality or seasonal hot drinks. Alternative milks are included where the shop stocks them. Large sizes, iced drinks and meal deals sit outside the offer.
The code works in Greggs shops across the UK except those at airports and motorway service stations. If you travel a lot, our guide to why Greggs costs more at airports explains the price gap. Each prize has its own terms, so read the small print on the prize screen before you head out.
| Regular hot drink | Standard-tier price (2026) | Calories |
|---|---|---|
| Americano | £1.80 | 9 kcal |
| Espresso | £1.80 | 11 kcal |
| White coffee | £1.80 | 34 kcal |
| Flat white | £2.40 | 71 kcal |
| Cappuccino | £2.40 | 94 kcal |
| Latte | £2.40 | 111 kcal |
| Mocha | £2.50 | 233 kcal |
| Vanilla latte | £3.00 | 165 kcal |
| Tea | From £1.50 | 9 kcal |
Standard high-street prices from our Greggs coffee menu prices and calories list, which also covers hot chocolate (219 kcal regular). City and London shops charge more.
Pick the priciest regular drink. The code is worth the price of whatever you order. A regular vanilla latte at £3.00 saves you £1.20 more than an americano at £1.80.
Milk is an allergen in every milky drink, and plant-based alternatives carry their own allergens. Don’t assume an oat or soya option is safe for you. The Food Standards Agency’s allergy guidance is a sensible starting point, and our allergen and dietary filter tool lets you check Greggs items against your needs.
What it’s worth
A win is worth the price of the regular drink you choose, so roughly £1.50 to £3.00 at standard-tier prices. Because the prize is random, there’s no fair yearly figure to put on it. That’s why the chart below covers the weekly routes that don’t depend on luck.
Rough yearly saving per route, one drink a week
Assumptions: one regular latte a week at £2.40 over 52 weeks. O2 Priority saves £1.40 a week. Monzo’s free drink is worth £124.80 a year, minus the £108 annual plan fee. A reusable cup saves 25p a drink. App stamps give about five free drinks a year at one drink a week. Your numbers will vary.
O2 Priority wins on pure savings. Monzo’s weekly treat only pays for itself if you want the rest of the Perks plan, or you claim the pricier items such as a sausage roll.
Pink Friday: the other time Octopus hands out Greggs treats
Every year around Black Friday, Octopus runs Pink Friday, a week of daily giveaways for Octoplus members. Greggs has featured in both recent editions. In 2024 Octopus gave away a free Greggs breakfast bap and hot drink. In 2025 it ran a Greggs treat drop on the Monday of the week, alongside UberEats and ASK Italian offers.
When we checked on 5 November 2026, Octopus’s Octoplus page said this year’s plans were still to come. Switch on app notifications in late November. Past Pink Friday offers went quickly, so be ready on the day a drop is announced.
Stacking it with Greggs app deals, stamps and cup discounts
Greggs generally accepts one offer per transaction, and Octopus’s terms allow one code per transaction. So treat the free drink as its own purchase and pay for anything else separately.
- Stamps: the Greggs app stamp system rewards what you buy. Scan the app on any paid items in a separate transaction, and don’t count on a stamp for the free drink.
- Reusable cup: there’s nothing to discount on a free drink. On paid days, bring your cup and take 25p off with the reusable cup discount.
- Other freebies: birthday treats and app rewards run independently. Spread them across the week instead of stacking them in one transaction.
Our Greggs freebie codes round-up tracks the rest of the partner deals.

The weekly Greggs perk is a bonus on top of a bundle that also includes a railcard and other extras.
FAQs
Is the Octopus free Greggs coffee still available in 2026?
Not as a weekly code. Octopus Energy stopped the weekly free coffee drops from 20 July 2026. A free Greggs or Caffè Nero coffee is now one possible prize on the Octoplus Monday Scratchcard, so you only get one if the card wins.
Do I need a smart meter to play the Octoplus scratchcard?
Yes. Octoplus is open to customers who get electricity from Octopus Energy, have an electricity smart meter sending half-hourly readings, and pay by Direct Debit. Without a smart meter you can request one on the Octopus website.
When does an Octopus Greggs coffee prize expire?
Claim any win in the Octopus app before the end of Monday. The Greggs code then works from Monday to midnight on Sunday of the same week. Check the expiry date on the prize, because each prize carries its own terms.
Can I use the Octopus Greggs voucher on any drink or size?
The code covers a regular-size hot drink, including coffees, tea and hot chocolate. Large sizes, iced drinks and meal deals are outside it. It also doesn’t work in Greggs shops at airports or motorway service stations.
Why can’t I see the free Greggs coffee in my Octopus app?
The daily and weekly coffee codes ended in July 2026, so there is no longer a Greggs tile to claim. Open the Octoplus tab on Monday and scratch your card. If the tab is missing, your account may have lost Octoplus access, for example after a Direct Debit change or a move to a home without a smart meter.
What is the best alternative if I don’t win a free Greggs drink?
O2 Priority gives a £1 hot drink or savoury treat every week to O2 mobile and Virgin Media broadband customers. Monzo Perks gives a free weekly Greggs treat but needs a paid plan, now £9 a month. Anyone can use the Greggs app for a welcome drink and stamps, and a reusable cup takes 25p off a hot drink.
Which route fits you
With Octopus and a smart meter, scratch every Monday and treat a coffee win as a bonus. On O2 or Virgin Media, use the £1 weekly deal first. Already on Monzo Perks for the other extras? Claim the weekly treat.
Everyone else can still claim the Greggs app welcome drink, collect stamps, and bring a cup. Don’t switch energy supplier for a chance at a free flat white. Tariff prices matter far more than any perk.
