Greggs Hash Browns: Price, Calories & Are They Vegan?
Greggs Hash Browns: Price, Calories & Are They Vegan? (2026)
The short version
A Greggs hash brown 2-pack costs £1.30 at Standard-tier shops (£1.55 in City & London, £1.70 at franchise shops and airports). It has 154 kcal, 6.6g fat and 21g carbs, and it’s on Greggs’ Vegan Friendly list with no declared allergens. It’s fried, then baked in store. Greggs doesn’t label it gluten free, and shared kitchens mean cross-contact can’t be ruled out.
Greggs hash browns are the cheapest hot savoury item on our Standard-tier menu list (sausage rolls and chicken rolls are £1.35). The questions people ask most are what they cost in each type of shop, how many calories they really have, and whether they’re vegan or gluten free, and plenty of sites get those wrong. This guide uses Greggs’ own product page and allergen guide (version 13, dated 1 October 2026) alongside our menu price list, so every figure can be traced.
Greggs hash brown price: £1.30 at Standard shops
A Hash Brown (2 pack) is £1.30 at Standard-tier shops, which is about 65p per hash brown. Greggs prices vary by shop type, and our full Greggs menu price list tracks three tiers. The Greggs London vs rest-of-UK comparison shows how the same tiers treat the rest of the menu.
| Tier | Hash Brown (2 pack) | Vs Standard | Where |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | £1.30 | – | High-street shops |
| City & London | £1.55 | +25p (about 19%) | City & London branches |
| Franchise & airports | £1.70 | +40p (about 31%) | Franchise shops, including airports and motorway services |
These are takeaway prices from our menu list, last updated 30 September 2026. Eating in adds 20% VAT, so a Standard 2-pack is about £1.56 to eat in. Prices on delivery apps can differ from in-shop, and individual shops can vary, so use the Greggs app to confirm yours.
Is a hash brown cheaper in a breakfast deal?
Slightly. The two-part Breakfast Deal (a roll plus a regular hot drink or 250ml orange juice) rose to £3.25 in May 2026 and doesn’t include a hash brown. Our Greggs breakfast menu prices guide lists a three-part deal with a side (hash browns or a yoghurt pot) at £4.15. On those figures the hash brown adds roughly 90p instead of £1.30. Deal prices have moved twice in a year, so confirm both in the app. Specialty drinks cost extra, and the lunchtime Big Deal (from £5.25) doesn’t list hash browns among its sides. Greggs’ App terms also list the Hash Brown (2 pack) among items eligible for its free breakfast item reward, though that list can change.
Hash brown calories and nutrition: 154 kcal per 2-pack
Greggs’ product page gives 154 kcal for the 76.4g pack, so roughly 77 kcal and 38g per hash brown. That is under half the calories of a sausage roll (348 kcal). Earlier Greggs listings showed 151 kcal and 6.3g fat, which is why many sites still quote those numbers.
| Typical values | Per 2-pack (76.4g) | % reference intake | Per 100g |
|---|---|---|---|
| Energy | 647kJ / 154 kcal | 8% | 848kJ / 202 kcal |
| Fat | 6.6g | 9% | 8.6g |
| of which saturates | 0.5g | 3% | 0.6g |
| Carbohydrate | 21g | – | 28g |
| of which sugars | 0g | <1% | 0g |
| Protein | 1.6g | – | 2.1g |
| Salt | 0.53g | 9% | 0.7g |
So a hash brown pair is low in sugar and saturated fat, moderate in salt, and very low in protein, which means it won’t keep you full for long on its own. Greggs can update recipes and figures, so treat the Greggs hash brown product page as the source of truth on the day.
Are Greggs hash browns vegan? Vegan Friendly, with caveats
Greggs lists its hash browns under “Vegan Friendly Products” in its allergen guide (version 13, 1 October 2026), and the product page declares no allergens. That means no milk, egg or other animal-derived allergen is listed. They are also vegetarian, dairy-free and egg-free as declared, and they appear on our Greggs vegan menu guide.
Note the wording. “Vegan Friendly” is Greggs’ own term for products that may not be made in dedicated vegan sites, where it has taken steps to reduce cross-contamination. Greggs also states it uses shared equipment, so the hash brown is not certified vegan. For most plant-based eaters that’s fine. For a strict vegan line or a milk allergy, it’s a personal call, and the shop’s allergen guide is the next step.
One correction to a common claim: Greggs hash browns are not simply baked. Greggs says the shredded potato is seasoned and fried, then baked in store until crisp and brown.
Are Greggs hash browns gluten-free? Allergens and cross-contact
- Gluten: no gluten-containing cereal is declared for the hash brown, but it is not labelled GF (gluten free). Greggs only applies GF to products made under its gluten controls, and most of the menu contains gluten. People with coeliac disease shouldn’t rely on hash browns. Our Greggs gluten-free guide lists the items Greggs does label GF.
- Milk, egg, soya and other allergens: none declared on the product page (“Allergens: N/A”).
- Cross-contact: Greggs says it can’t guarantee any food is allergen-free because kitchens and equipment are shared.
- Salt: 0.53g per pack (9% of an adult’s reference intake), which adds up if you’re stacking sauces and deals.
Allergen details change, so check the current Greggs allergens and nutrition page before ordering. Our Greggs allergy information guide explains how to read it.
How hash browns compare with other Greggs breakfast items
Calorie ladder: hash browns vs other breakfast staples
Calories per item from our Greggs menu price list (updated 30 Sep 2026) and Greggs’ product page for the hash brown.
Only the fruit pots (43–48 kcal) and the fat-free Greek-style yoghurt (114 kcal) are lighter on the breakfast and snack board. The croissant is 292 kcal, the pain au chocolat 299 kcal, and the porridge pots 222–249 kcal.
Syns, keto and calorie counting: where hash browns fit
Slimming World’s own app is the only official source for Syn values. As an unofficial rule of thumb of about 20 kcal per Syn, 154 kcal comes to roughly 8 Syns. WW points depend on your plan and the WW app’s database, so check there rather than trusting a number from a website. Keto dieters should skip them: there are 21g of carbohydrate in a pack. Our Greggs Slimming World Syns list and under-300-calories guide show where the hash brown sits among lighter picks.
✅ The dieter’s swap
Choosing a hash brown pair over a sausage roll saves about 194 kcal (154 vs 348), or nearly 10 Syns on the same rule of thumb. The trade-off is protein: at 1.6g, it won’t fill you up like a roll.
