Greggs Hot Sides 2026: Wedges, Goujons & Bites Prices, Calories & Syns

📅 Updated 07/10/2026 · Prices checked across all three Greggs tiers · Nutrition checked against greggs.com · 8 min read

The short version

Greggs sells four hot sides: Southern Fried Potato Wedges (£2.00, 278 kcal), Southern Fried Chicken Goujons (£3.50, 400 kcal), Spicy BBQ Chicken Bites (£2.35, 286 kcal) and Mozzarella & Cheddar Bites (£2.35, 322 kcal). Those are standard high-street takeaway prices. City and London shops charge about 20% more (goujons £4.20) and airport, station and motorway franchises about 40% more (goujons £4.90). Wedges are the best value, BBQ bites give you the most protein per pound, and goujons are the one that works as a lunch.

I’ve stood in more Greggs queues than I’d like to admit, and the hot cabinet is where the odd maths happens. A sausage roll is a sausage roll wherever you buy it. A box of wedges isn’t: £2.00 on a retail park, £2.80 at an airport franchise. And the gap between a goujon box and a BBQ bites box is 114 kcal and a different protein story altogether. So I priced all four hot sides at all three tiers, checked every calorie and macro against Greggs’ own product pages on 7 October 2026, and worked out cost per 100g and protein per pound so you can see which box earns its place on your tray.

Greggs hot sides in 2026: the full line-up

Four boxes make up the range: two chicken, one cheese, one potato. The table shows takeaway prices at each tier next to Greggs’ published weight and calories per portion.

Prices are takeaway prices from our menu tables and vary by branch, so treat the Greggs app at checkout as the final word. Weights and calories are Greggs’ published per-portion figures, checked on greggs.com on 7 October 2026. Recipes change, and Greggs’ own nutrition and allergen pages always override this one.

One practical point: not every Greggs has a hot cabinet. Our hot food guide shows wedges mainly in bigger stores, the chicken bites mostly in drive-thrus and larger shops, and the cheese bites in larger stores, while small neighbourhood shops stick to the core menu. If your local doesn’t list them in the app, try a retail-park or drive-thru branch.

Southern Fried Potato Wedges: the value baseline

The wedges are the cheapest way into the hot cabinet and the lightest on calories: 278 kcal for a 150g box, with 9.6g fat, 4g protein and 1.2g salt. At £2.00 standard that is £1.33 per 100g, the lowest of the four.

Greggs lists them on its vegan menu, and they’re the only hot side with no meat or dairy. Two caveats. The southern fried coating contains wheat, so they aren’t gluten-free. And if you’re strict about vegan or allergen cross-contact, read Greggs’ current allergen guide before you order rather than trusting a blog, this one included. As for taste, the seasoning does most of the work: lightly spiced, a bit sweet, and in my experience they go soft after about ten minutes in the box. Eat them walking.

Southern Fried Chicken Goujons: the protein box

The goujon box is 160g of chicken breast goujons in spiced breadcrumbs: 400 kcal, 18g fat (7g saturates), 27g protein and 1.6g salt, with a free dip of your choice. Sugar is zero. 27g of protein is a lot for something that sits in the sides cabinet.

The value maths cuts the other way. At £3.50 standard you pay £2.19 per 100g, about 64% more than the wedges, and 400 kcal is a fifth of an adult’s daily reference intake before you’ve added anything else. The salt is 27% of the reference intake. In London the box is £4.20 and at an airport franchise £4.90.

My rule: goujons are a lunch, not a side. Add wedges and you have 678 kcal and 31g of protein for £5.50 before a drink. The Big Deal can beat that price, as the deals section below explains.

BBQ and cheese bites: what you get for £2.35

Spicy BBQ Chicken Bites are the sleeper pick. A 104g box gives you 286 kcal, 19g of protein and a free Heinz sauce pot. That is the best protein per pound of the four, about 8.1g per £1. The BBQ coating adds 2.4g of sugars (the goujons have none), saturates are 5.7g and salt is 1g. If you want chicken without paying the goujon price, this is the box.

Mozzarella & Cheddar Bites are the meat-free treat and the most calorie-dense hot side per gram, at 333 kcal per 100g. A 96.8g box is 322 kcal with 20g fat, 9.5g saturates (48% of an adult’s reference intake), 13g protein and 1.3g salt. They are also the worst value per 100g at £2.43, and they cool fast, so eat them straight away. Greggs lists milk as the allergen on its product page.

Same box, three prices: standard, London and airport

Greggs prices by shop type: standard high-street and retail-park shops, city and London centres, and franchise sites such as airports, stations and motorway services. The hot sides follow that pattern closely:

  • Wedges: £2.00, £2.40, £2.80 (+20% and +40%)
  • Goujons: £3.50, £4.20, £4.90 (+20% and +40%)
  • Both bite boxes: £2.35, £2.80, £3.30 (+19% and +40%)

Across the whole menu our tier checks show city shops running roughly 11–20% above standard and franchises roughly 27–55% above, so the hot sides sit at the top of both ranges. Our London vs rest-of-UK price comparison covers the rest of the menu, and why Greggs is more expensive at airports explains the franchise gap.

Three things worth knowing before you order:

VAT. Hot takeaway food is already standard-rated for VAT under HMRC’s catering and takeaway food rules, so these prices already include it. The “eat-in adds 20% VAT” note we use on cold items doesn’t automatically apply to a hot box, so check the till before assuming it costs more to sit down.

Stamps. Greggs Rewards stamps are usually not earned at franchise sites, so an airport goujon box may not count towards your freebie. Ask at the counter.

Distance pays. A standard-tier shop sells the same box for about 29% less than a franchise (goujons £3.50 against £4.90), so buy before you reach the terminal if you can.

Calories, Syns and allergens

Greggs publishes full nutrition for every hot side. Here is the calorie league table, lightest first, then the macros that matter.

On Syns: we haven’t found official Slimming World values for Greggs’ hot sides, so the figures above are our estimates. We divide Greggs’ calories by roughly 20 kcal per Syn and round to the nearest half. Slimming World sets the real values, so check its app if you’re counting tightly. Deals and combos

  • The Big Deal starts at £5.25 for a main, a side and a regular drink. Goujons count as a main and wedges as a side, so that is goujons, wedges and a drink for 25p less than the two boxes alone (£5.50). Specialty drinks carry a surcharge and some franchise sites run different terms, so check your shop.
  • Two-box combos: goujons plus wedges is £5.50 (678 kcal, 31g protein); wedges plus BBQ bites is £4.35 (564 kcal, 23g protein). Prices are standard tier.
  • Delivery bundles: delivery-app menus list hot-side bundles such as a BBQ Bites Meal Box (BBQ bites with wedges) and pizza-box-and-wedges combos. Contents and prices differ by shop and app, and delivery fees come on top.
  • App stamps: nine stamps in a category earns a freebie, but franchise sites usually don’t award them. Our meal deal value comparison tool lines up the current combos.

If the hot sides have you wondering what else is worth the tray space, our hot food guide and pizza menu guide run the same value check on toasties, baguettes and pizza boxes.
