Cheapest Things at Greggs 2026: 50+ Items Under £2

By Harper Jones · Updated 29 October 2026 · Prices from our full Greggs menu price list (takeaway, checked October 2026)

The short answer

More than 50 items on our menu list cost under £2 at standard-tier shops. The cheapest are the Novelty Bun (85p, stock varies), a bag of crisps (£1.10) and the Jam Doughnut (£1.15). The cheapest hot items are the Hash Brown (£1.30), Sausage Roll (£1.35) and Chicken Roll (£1.35), and the Steak Bake (£1.85) is the best-value filler. Tea is the cheapest hot drink at £1.35.

Prices rise by tier: City/London shops charge roughly 11–19% more and airport or franchise sites roughly 27–55% more. Eating in adds 20% VAT. Under £2 buys one item, not a meal, but the stacking tricks below can stretch it.

The under-£2 range at Greggs is bigger than most “cheap Greggs” lists suggest, but only if you know which till you’re standing at. Greggs prices by shop type, so the same item can be under £2 on a high street and over it at an airport. Every price below is the takeaway price from our menu page, with City/London and airport or franchise prices alongside. Prices in red are £2.00 or more. Seasonal lines (such as gingerbread and festive biscuits) come and go, so check stock and your local price in the Greggs price finder before you queue.

Savoury items under £2

Eight savouries stay under £2 at standard shops, led by the Hash Brown, Sausage Roll and Chicken Roll. The Chicken Bake sits at exactly £2.00, so it just misses.

The Sausage Roll is the anchor at £1.35. The Vegan Sausage Roll costs 5p more at £1.40, and the new Chicken Roll matches the classic. The Hash Brown is the cheapest hot item on the menu per pack. The Steak Bake at £1.85 is the one most people don’t expect to see here: it is the best hot-food-per-pound item that still clears £2. Browse the rest of the range in our savouries and bakes section.

Breakfast items under £2

Greggs serves breakfast from opening until 11am, and the cheapest options are the croissants, the pain au chocolat and the porridge pots. Add a £1.35 tea and a Hash Brown for a full breakfast under £3.

Drinks under £2

Tea is the cheapest hot drink at £1.35, and a 12oz Americano just makes it under the line at £1.95. Anything with milk and foam, from lattes to cappuccinos, starts at £2.25.

The under-£2 price chart (standard shops)

The orange line is the £2 ceiling. A selection of the cheapest and best-value picks, cheapest first.

Takeaway prices, standard-tier shops, October 2026.

Three tiers: why your price may differ

Greggs doesn’t have one price list; it has three. Standard high-street and retail-park shops are cheapest. City-centre and London shops typically charge about 11–19% more, and franchise sites such as airports, motorway services and some stations charge about 27–55% more. Here is how a few under-£2 favourites compare.

ItemStandardCity/LondonAirport/franchise
Sausage Roll£1.35£1.53 (+13%)£1.80 (+33%)
Hash Brown£1.30£1.55 (+19%)£1.70 (+31%)
Yum Yum£1.20£1.40 (+17%)£1.70 (+42%)
Tea£1.35£1.50 (+11%)£1.75 (+30%)
Steak Bake£1.85£2.05 (+11%)£2.45 (+32%)

The pattern is predictable, and it means the Steak Bake is the first item to leave the under-£2 list when you move away from a standard shop, while the Sausage Roll holds on even at an airport. We explain why in our London vs rest-of-UK comparison and Gatwick vs Heathrow airport prices guide.

Eating in: where “under £2” quietly disappears

Every price above is a takeaway price. Eating in adds 20% VAT. That means anything priced above about £1.66 at the takeaway counter costs more than £2 when you sit down: a Sausage, Bean & Cheese Melt at £1.70 becomes about £2.04, and a Steak Bake at £1.85 becomes about £2.22. A £1.35 Sausage Roll eaten in is about £1.62, still under £2.

The near-misses: £2.00 to £2.60

These just miss the cut at standard shops. Several are still good value.

ItemStandardVerdict
Chicken Bake£2.00Exactly £2, so not under. 420 kcal and the best hot filler just over the line.
Vegan Lattice (Steak-Free)£2.10The vegan answer to the Steak Bake.
Sausage or Bacon Breakfast Roll£2.20The cheapest proper breakfast roll.
Latte, Cappuccino, Hot Chocolate£2.25Where milky drinks start.
Flat White£2.40Top of the standard coffee range.
Roast Chicken & Mayo Sandwich£2.50The cheapest of the sandwich range.
Tomato Soup£2.55The cheapest hot lunch.

Meal deal maths: when a deal beats buying separately

At under £2 a head, deals rarely help, because you’re already buying the cheapest items. The exception is when you pair a bake or pizza with a milky drink. Here is how the current deals compare with buying the same items separately at standard shops.

DealDeal priceSame items separatelyVerdict
Savoury Bake & Hot Drinkfrom £3.35Sausage Roll + tea = £2.70
Chicken Bake + flat white = £4.40
Skip it for the cheap pair (65p cheaper separately). Worth it with a flat white (saves £1.05).
Pizza Slice & Drink (after 4pm)from £2.85Margherita slice + tea = £3.75Saves about 90p, and it’s the cheapest Greggs meal deal. Before 4pm it’s £3.50.
Breakfast Deal (until 11am)£3.25Sausage Breakfast Roll + tea = £3.55Saves about 30p, more if your drink is a latte or flat white.

Calories and Swips for the cheap picks

The under-£2 range is not a health-food range, but the numbers are easy to check. A Sausage Roll is 348 kcal, a Chicken Roll 305 kcal, a Hash Brown pack 154 kcal, a Yum Yum 323 kcal and a Jam Doughnut 236 kcal. The porridge pots are the lighter breakfast at 222–249 kcal. Slimming World counts about 20 kcal per Swip (formerly called Syns), so a Sausage Roll is roughly 17 and a Jam Doughnut roughly 12. These are rough conversions, not official values. Our Slimming World guide, WW points guide and full calorie guide cover the rest. For general guidance on a balanced diet, see the NHS Eatwell Guide.

Stack the discounts: ways to make £2 go further

  • Greggs app. A free hot or iced drink when you sign up, then stamps: every nine purchases in a category earns a free item. See how the stamp system works.
  • O2 Priority. O2 and Virgin Media broadband customers get £1 Greggs hot drinks or savouries through the Priority app, plus occasional free drink codes. O2 has described the £1 reward as weekly in 2026, but limits and times change, so check the app.
  • Monzo Perks or Max. A free weekly treat: a Sausage Roll (regular, vegan or chicken), regular hot drink, doughnut or muffin. It’s only on the paid Perks and Max plans, not free Monzo accounts.
  • Octopus Energy. Octoplus customers can get a free weekly hot drink through the Greggs app.
  • Reusable cup. 25p off hot drinks, which takes a £1.35 tea to £1.10.
  • Too Good To Go. Greggs surprise bags have been reported at about £2.59–£2.99, and bags often work out well under £1 an item, but contents depend on the shop and day.

The real maths: a Sausage Roll plus a free app or Monzo drink costs £1.35. The same roll with a £1 O2 drink is £2.35. Without a perk, a roll and a tea is £2.70. More offers are on our Greggs deals and discounts page.

How the Sausage Roll got to £1.35

A Greggs Sausage Roll cost roughly £1 around 2019. Greggs put the national price up 5p to £1.30 in early 2025, and our menu page lists £1.35 at standard shops in 2026, about a third above 2019. The Breakfast Deal has gone from £2.95 to £3.15 to £3.25, and Greggs has warned that costs could keep rising through the end of 2026 and into 2027 (Press Association via LBC). Our sausage roll inflation tracker has the year-by-year detail.

The sub-£2 range survives because Greggs still prices most savouries and sweets well below £2 at standard shops. Pick your tier, check eat-in against takeaway, and use a perk or two to turn one item into a meal.
