Greggs Mac & Cheese: Price, Calories & Where to Get It (2026)

The viral pasta box is still on the menu — but it isn’t in every Greggs, and the way most people buy it is the expensive way.

Greggs Mac & Cheese: Price, Calories & Where to Get It (2026) £4.55 standard shop 616 kcal per box

The short version

Greggs’ Mac & Cheese is £4.55 at a standard shop, £5.23 in London and £5.68 at an airport, and it’s 616 calories — Greggs’ own figure, not a tracker’s guess. It’s only sold in shops with a Hot To Go unit, so check before you travel. Buying the box on its own is the expensive way: for 70p more, the £5.25 Big Deal gets you the same box plus a side and a drink.

I’ve watched this thing go from a rumour on TikTok to a permanent fixture, and the questions people ask me about it have barely changed: what does it actually cost, how bad is it really, and why doesn’t my local Greggs sell it? Fair questions, and the answers have shifted since launch. So here’s the lot — current prices across all three Greggs tiers, the official nutrition rather than a third-party guess, and the bit nobody mentions, which is that the obvious way to buy it is the wrong way.

💷 What Greggs Mac & Cheese costs in 2026

Greggs quotes it as “from £4.55”, and that “from” is doing real work. A standard high-street or retail-park shop charges the baseline. City-centre and London branches run roughly 11–19% higher, and franchise sites — airports, motorway services, some stations — sit higher again.

Shop typeMac & Cheesevs standard
Standard high street / retail park£4.55—
City centre & London£5.23+68p
Franchise — airports, motorway services£5.68+£1.13

Eat-in adds 20% VAT on top, which catches people out in the bigger shops with seating. And one thing worth saying plainly: that £4.55 standard price hasn’t moved since the national rollout, despite Greggs putting up its meal deals twice — once in October 2025 and again in May 2026. The box has quietly become better value relative to everything around it. For the full picture across the menu, there’s the complete Greggs price list with all three tiers.

🧮 The 70p trick most people miss

Here’s the bit that actually saves you money. When Mac & Cheese launched, Greggs pushed a “box plus any drink from £5.75” bundle, and a lot of listings still quote it. Ignore it. The Big Deal — Greggs’ three-part main, side and drink — went to £5.25 in May 2026, and Greggs’ delivery menus list Mac & Cheese as an eligible Big Deal main.

So: £4.55 buys you a box. £5.25 buys you the same box, a bag of wedges or a sausage roll, and a coffee. Seventy pence. I genuinely can’t think of another thing on the Greggs menu where the upgrade maths is that lopsided.

Box only £4.55

Mac & Cheese on its own. Fine if you’ve already got a drink.

Best value £5.25

The Big Deal — box plus a side plus a regular hot or cold drink. 70p more than the box alone.

Avoid £5.75

The old launch bundle: box plus a drink, no side. 50p more than the Big Deal for less food.

Worth knowing

Specialty drinks carry a surcharge on the Big Deal — around 60p for a regular specialty hot or iced drink, more for an iced latte. A standard latte or tea keeps it at £5.25. Full breakdown in the 2026 meal deal price guide.

📍 Which Greggs shops actually sell it

This is the question I get most, usually from someone standing in a Greggs that doesn’t have it. Mac & Cheese needs a Hot To Go unit — the heated kit that also does soup, wedges and goujons. Plenty of smaller shops simply don’t have one.

Greggs rolled it out to every Hot To Go shop by the end of July 2025, which was more than 1,750 of them. But Greggs’ own allergen guide still files it under “Hot Pasta Boxes — selected shops only”, and that wording was unchanged in the version published on 22 October 2026. “Selected” means most, not all.

How to check in thirty seconds

Open the Greggs app or Click + Collect, pick your shop, and look under Hot Food. If Mac & Cheese isn’t listed there, that branch doesn’t carry it — no point walking over. Small neighbourhood shops, petrol forecourts and some in-store Greggs counters are the usual misses. Drive-throughs and retail-park sites almost always have it.

One more practical note: it’s baked fresh in shop through the day rather than held all day, so late evening can be hit and miss in a shop that’s winding down. If you’re going after seven, Click + Collect saves the wasted trip. The rest of the warm menu is covered in the hot food at Greggs guide, and the sides are in the wedges, goujons and bites breakdown.

🛵 Why delivery apps say £5.65

Search for the price and you’ll hit a wall of £5.65 and £5.25 figures that don’t match the counter. They’re not wrong, they’re just not shop prices. Delivery menus on Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo carry their own markup before any delivery fee or service charge lands on top, and the same box routinely shows at £5.65 through an app.

Click + Collect through the Greggs app charges the shop price with no markup, and earns you an app stamp. If you’re within walking distance it’s the obvious move.

📈 From ten shops in Manchester to a growth driver

The route this took is genuinely unusual for a Greggs product — it got popular before most people could buy it.

  • November 2024

Quiet trial in ten Greater Manchester shops. TikTok finds it almost immediately and the clips take off.

  • Early 2025

Expanded to around 300 shops, with Greggs publishing a shop-by-shop list because people were travelling to find one.

  • 22 April 2025

National rollout announced — every shop with a Hot To Go unit, over 1,750 of them, by the end of July.

  • January 2026

Chief executive Roisin Currie names Mac & Cheese, alongside new pizza flavours and chicken goujons, as one of the things expected to drive sales through 2026.

  • October 2026

Still on the menu at £4.55, still listed as selected shops only. Its old stablemate, the Meatball Pasta Bake, has quietly gone.

That last point is the tell. Greggs trims the menu constantly — the Meatball Pasta Bake launched alongside Mac & Cheese and no longer appears in the current allergen guide at all. Mac & Cheese survived and got named in a trading update. It isn’t going anywhere soon.

🔥 616 calories — and where that number comes from

Most pages quoting this figure hedge it as “one nutrition tracker says”. It isn’t a tracker’s estimate. It’s Greggs’ own published figure, in the nutritional information current as of September 2026, and here’s the full row rather than just the headline.

Ignore the 515 calorie figure

A couple of calorie databases list a “Gregg’s Macaroni Cheese” at 515 kcal in a 285g serving. That doesn’t match the product Greggs sells now — wrong portion weight, wrong macros. If a number isn’t tied to a 324g box, it isn’t this.

For context against the rest of the counter, here’s where 616 kcal actually sits. These are all Greggs’ own September 2026 figures.

Mac & Cheese is the heaviest single hot item short of a sharing pizza.

If you’re counting, that’s roughly a third of a typical day in one box — fine as a meal, heavy as a snack. The full Greggs calorie and allergen guide has the rest of the menu.

⚠️ The number that should actually worry you

It isn’t the calories. It’s the saturated fat. Eighteen grams in one box, which under NHS guidance — no more than 20g a day for women, 30g for men — is most of a day’s allowance before you’ve eaten anything else.

Saturated fat: one Mac & Cheese vs a day’s limit

NHS guidance: no more than 20g a day for women, 30g a day for men.

Greggs Mac & Cheese: Price, Calories & Where to Get It (2026) Men (30g max) Women (20g max) 60% 90% 18g saturated fat per box · 1.9g salt (32% of the 6g daily maximum)

None of which makes it a bad thing to eat. It’s a cheese dish — cheese sauce, Cheddar and Red Leicester on top — and that’s where the saturates come from. It just means this is a meal you build a day around, not one you tack onto a sausage roll.

💪 Quietly the best meat-free protein on the menu

Here’s the thing nobody writes about. Twenty-seven grams of protein — 54% of the daily reference intake — makes Mac & Cheese the highest-protein meat-free item Greggs sells. Not the pizza, not the toasties, not the Cheese & Onion Bake, which has barely a third of it.

Protein in Greggs’ meat-free items, per portion (Greggs, September 2026)
ItemProteinCalories
Mac & Cheese27g616

Cheese & Onion Stottie23g575
Veggie Feast Pizza (whole)20g614
Tomato & Mozzarella Pasta15g522
Cheese & Onion Bake8.6g436

If you don’t eat meat and you want something hot and genuinely filling rather than a pastry that leaves you hungry by three, this is the pick. It’s not a health food — the saturates above see to that — but on protein per pound it holds up against the chicken options, and it’s the only hot, substantial, meat-free main Greggs does.

📊 Swips, WW Points and tracking it honestly

Slimming World renamed Syns to Swips — Slimming World’s Individual Picks — in January 2026. Name change only; the values didn’t move, and most members still work to around 15 a day.

Slimming World doesn’t publish values for Greggs’ hot food, so anyone giving you a precise number for this is estimating. On the common 20 kcal to a Swip rule of thumb, 616 kcal lands around 31 Swips — roughly two days’ allowance in one box. Treat that as a ballpark and check the Slimming World app, which is the only thing that counts at group.

WW Points work differently again: the formula runs on calories, saturated fat, sugar and protein together, so you can’t shortcut it from calories alone. Punch these four into the app and you’ll get the real number:

What to enter in your WW app

616 kcal · 18g saturated fat · 5.2g sugars · 27g protein, for a 324g portion. The high protein pulls the Points down a little; the saturated fat pushes them up a lot.

🌾 Allergens, and who can eat it

It’s got no meat in it, so it works if you’re vegetarian. It is not vegan — the cheese sauce, the Cheddar and the Red Leicester all rule that out, and it doesn’t appear on Greggs’ Vegan Friendly list. It’s also not gluten free: the pasta and the ciabatta breadcrumb topping both contain wheat.

So that’s wheat and milk at minimum, plus whatever else the current recipe declares. Greggs updates its allergen guide roughly monthly — the version current as I write is dated 22 October 2026 — and recipes change. If you’re managing an allergy, check the live guide at greggs.com/nutrition on the day rather than trusting any third-party page, mine included. Greggs also states it can’t guarantee anything is allergen-free, because the shop kitchens share equipment.

✅ So is it worth it?

Yes, with two conditions.

Buy it as the Big Deal, not on its own. At £5.25 for the box, a side and a drink it’s one of the better-value hot lunches on any British high street, and it’s still the only mainstream UK meal deal that includes genuinely hot food. At £4.55 for the box alone it’s fine but unremarkable, and at £5.68 in an airport you’re paying airport tax on pasta.

And treat it as the meal. Six hundred calories and 18g of saturates is a proper lunch, not something you add a steak bake to. Get it, sit down with it, and don’t pretend the crumb topping makes it a salad.

The honest knock on it — and reviewers landed on this at launch too — is that the cheese sauce plays it safe. It’s creamy and it’s generous, but it’s mild. A sharper cheese or a crack of pepper would lift it enormously, and you can do the pepper yourself at the counter.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Greggs Mac & Cheese costs £4.55 at a standard high-street or retail-park shop in October 2026. City-centre and London branches charge around £5.23, and franchise locations such as airports and motorway services charge around £5.68. Eating in adds 20% VAT. Better value is The Big Deal at £5.25, which includes the Mac & Cheese as your main plus a side and a regular drink — only 70p more than the box on its own.

How many calories are in Greggs Mac & Cheese?

There are 616 calories in a Greggs Mac & Cheese, in a 324g box. That is Greggs’ own published figure, correct as of September 2026. The box also contains 36g of fat, of which 18g is saturated fat — about 90% of the maximum daily amount the NHS recommends for women and 60% for men — along with 45g of carbohydrate, 27g of protein and 1.9g of salt.

Do all Greggs shops sell Mac & Cheese?

No. Mac & Cheese is only sold in Greggs shops fitted with a Hot To Go unit, which Greggs lists as selected shops only. It reached more than 1,750 shops by the end of July 2025, but smaller neighbourhood branches, petrol forecourt shops and some in-store counters still do not stock it. The quickest way to check is the Greggs app or Click + Collect: select your branch and look under Hot Food.
